Why Your Furnace Has a Strange Smell

Published on November 29, 2016
Furnace Smells 617

Most residents in Daytona Beach know to call All American Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning when their heating equipment starts making weird noises or leaking water, but did you know that funny smells are another reason to call a service technician? Learn about these furnace smells you should never ignore.

Rotten Eggs

The smell of rotten eggs is very pronounced, which is why several gas companies add this distinct odor to their gas to notify homeowners and furnace experts that there is a problem. If you smell this odor coming from your heating system, shut off your gas appliances immediately as you could have a gas leak. Open the doors and windows so any gas can release outside, and call your furnace service technician as soon as possible and let them know you think you may have a gas leak.

Mold or Musty

Your heating and cooling system function together to keep you comfortable throughout all the seasons. Since A/C systems can cause condensation to collect, moisture can manifest in your air duct system and create mold, producing the musty or moldy stench. If you turn on your heating system or air conditioner and smell an odor like this, call All American Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. We’ll come over ASAP to analyze your duct system and do an indoor air quality analysis. We can then share with you recommendations on how to remove the source of the smell and make sure your heating and cooling system is ready to keep you toasty and healthy all winter long.

Electrical or Burning

There are many things that could be occurring if you smell an electrical or burning smell, all of which should get your attention and should not be ignored. If you have this stench coming from your furnace, it’s probable something is overheating or may be a symptom of wiring problems. Shut off your heating equipment immediately and call your furnace professional to provide a complete diagnosis.
