Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your A/C system around the clock to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your AC maintenance technician to come out and perform your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are a couple other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

Don’t start taking your air conditioner apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the area around your system to clear away twigs and leaves that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the A/C and cut back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

All American Air Service Experts will change your home’s basic air filters when they perform your seasonal tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard cooling equipment service. Note that a clogged filter could actually damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Help keep your home cooler by hanging blackout drapes or window shades to help keep the sun from heating up your home. This may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your utility bills.

A yearly AC tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call All American Air Service Experts today to make sure your cooling equipment is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and ask about our spring specials on A/C system tune-ups.
