Adil Karamally Receives Joe Groh Foundation Grant

July 09, 2016

The Joseph Groh Foundation is a great organization that offers financial support to people in the construction field who are living with life-altering injuries. Once a year the association honors multiple recipients with a grant and in 2016 the Joseph Groh Foundation was delighted to announce Adil Karamally as a recipient.

Adil, raised in Pakistan, received his MBA from the University of Chicago and in 2003 bought ProStar Mechanical Services of Anaheim, CA and obtained his HVAC and general contracting license. In 2013, Adil suffered a massive stroke at the young age of 48. He lost the use of his left arm and it left his left leg seriously impaired, leaving Adil with foot drop. Only able to walk with a heavy brace, his muscles began to atrophy and his doctors worried that he would eventually be confined to a wheelchair.

No longer able to work, Adil’s wife, Laila, was their lone source of income, causing financial pressure on the couple with a young child in elementary and three more children in college. Their spirits were lifted when Adil was told about the WalkAid System, a piece of equipment that incorporates functional electrical stimulation to help someone with foot drop walk again. But when they learned of the cost, Adil and Laila realized they could not afford the WalkAid System in addition to the comprehensive rehab that would be needed so he could understand how to use it.

Luckily, a professional at WalkAid directed the couple to the Joseph Groh Foundation and, because of the wonderful grant, Adil got the WalkAid System and has already experienced wonderful success. His muscle is starting to regenerate and not atrophy, bringing positive thoughts back to Adil and Laila.
